Craft for Growth is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Maputo, Mozambique, dedicated to empowering women in situations of incarceration. We believe in the transformative potential of crafts as a tool for social reintegration and financial independence. Our mission is to provide these women with the opportunity to acquire manual skills and technical knowledge that will enable them to generate sustainable income, support their families, and ease their reintegration into society upon their release.
Our Story
In the heart of Maputo, Mozambique, a quiet but powerful revolution is unfolding. Craft for Growth, a new non-governmental organization (NGO), is dedicated to empowering women incarcerated in the country’s prisons. The organization believes in the transformative potential of craftsmanship as a tool for social reintegration and financial independence. Craft for Growth offers these women the opportunity to acquire practical skills and technical knowledge, which will enable them to generate sustainable income, support their families, and facilitate their reintegration into society upon their release.

The Problem
Incarcerated women in Mozambique face significant social stigma, limited access to rehabilitation programs, and scarce opportunities for economic reintegration. Without support, many re-enter society without skills, income, or hope for a brighter future.
Our Approach
Craft for Growth provides craft-based training, psychosocial support, and income-generation opportunities inside prisons. By focusing on creativity, identity, and entrepreneurship, we aim to facilitate personal transformation and create pathways for reintegration and independence.
